Parent Partnership Policy-

We believe in developing and maintaining positive relationships between the child care center and families.

The Nursery at Our Lady of Sorrows School believes that family involvement, and shared decision making about your child’s experience are essential to the success of our program. This partnership forms a caring community in which families, caregivers and children can grow and interact. We actively work to support family life and provide ways to involve families.

We believe that by giving families many varied ways to be involved is the key to creating a family oriented child care center, where family members are an important part of the life of The Nursery.

Some of the many ways to be involved include;

  • The Nursery’s open door policy welcomes family members to call or visit anytime.
  • We have a parent library where you can find books, magazines, DVDs and other helpful materials on parenting, child development and general family topics.
  • Parenting workshops offer information and discussions on various topics of interest to parents of infants and toddlers.
  • Throughout the year special events such as family breakfasts, social gatherings occur to allow families to meet and socialize with other parents at The Nursery.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly communications take place both verbally and through written means to keep families well informed.
  • Bulletin boards, parent boards, newsletters and an up to date website are also used to keep families well informed.
  • Families are strongly encouraged to share their ideas and concerns with the director.
  • Parents are always invited to share special talents, activities or projects with the children.
  • We enjoy having parents join their child’s class for lunch anytime.
  • Families are asked to participate in an annual survey to rate and comment on all aspects of our program

We believe that parents belong in The Nursery.

Each child at The Nursery at Our Lady of Sorrows School has primary caregivers. Primary caregivers act as family advocates, communicators, and quality monitors for their children and families within the program. Parents work with teachers as goal setters for their child's experience of care and learning.

We believe that parents are experts on their children. Early childhood professionals are usually knowledgeable about child development, children in general, and individual child behavior in our setting, but parents are the experts on their own child. The program's responsibility is to recognize, help bring forth, and listen to each parent's knowledge and expertise regarding their child.

We believe that parents are their child’s most important teachers. Parent-child interactions are the fundamental basis of the child's early education: the development of self, language, cognition, and values.

We are committed to creating a strong connection between the home and the center through honest, open communication. This includes a continual exchange of information between you and the staff at The Nursery.

We believe we must provide information to parents on program and parenting concerns in several modes: face-to-face, telephone, handouts, meetings, and electronically.

In summation we at The Nursery at Our Lady of Sorrows School believe that success through parent partnership depends on:

  • Mutual respect
  • Understanding and appreciating perspectives
  • Two-way communication
  • Common goals
  • Realistic expectations
  • Teamwork
  • Shared decision making
